Costume Making

The Process

All making is carried out in our London-based workshop by our permanent studio team. We specialise in bespoke costume making across a wide range of styles, from sci-fi, fantasy and historical work to contemporary costume, using everything from classic textiles to more technical materials such as PVC, leather and plastics.

We also understand that different productions need very different things from costume. Theatre pieces must be built to endure the demands of six to eight shows a week, with durability, comfort and ease of maintenance designed in from the outset. Film, television and advertising often call for a different emphasis, where close-up finish, continuity and camera-read detail are critical. That breadth of experience allows us to tailor each build to both the design and the realities of how it will be used.

Fittings

Our making process is highly collaborative, and fittings are a vital part of it. Where useful, we can begin with toiles or mock-ups, allowing clients to see how a design works in three dimensions and on the body before committing to final fabrics and finishes. It is also an important creative stage, giving space to explore shape, proportion and movement in a practical, responsive way.

Fittings continue throughout the build as the costume develops, helping us refine the piece at each stage and ensure the final result fits beautifully, performs as needed and fully delivers on both the design intent and the practical demands of production. These can take place at our studio or on-site with clients, wherever the project requires.
